2016 AZBC ARIZONA BADMINTON CHAMPIONSHIPS

Who are the best badminton players in Arizona? Every year that is decided at this tough April event at the AZBC and memorialized on a plaque in the lobby. At the 5th annual AZBC ARIZONA BADMINTON CHAMPIONSHIPS more than 60 competitors put out more energy, more sweat, more gut-it-out effort than ever before!

The first Saturday, April 16, played out the Open, "B" and Senior Men and Women Doubles events, and all of the Junior Arizona Badminton Championships. The Open Women Doubles title was won by Kiyoko and Theo Hashimoto. The Open Men Doubles was won by Naren Koka and Karan Kumar. The top junior winners were Jordyn Mee winning the U11, U13, U15 Girls Singles and Mixed Doubles; and Gabriel Allen winning the U13 Singles, Doubles and Mixed, as well as the U15 Mixed.

The second Saturday, April 23, played the Men and Women Singles and Mixed Doubles events. Kiyoko again won the Open Women Singles making it 3 years in row! Avi Mamidanna won the Open Men Singles after surviving successive difficult 3-game matches in the semis over Seigo Hashimoto and in the finals over defending champion Art Solo. FInally, the Open Mixed in the afternoon was a battle of attrition among many of the dead tired singles players and partners. Avi Mamidanna and Priya Nair emerged the champions after a tough 3-game semis over Steve and Theo Hashimoto and a solid 2-game win in the finals over an exhausted Art Solo and Kiyoko Hashimoto.
